Overview
Please note a change to the Road Traffic Act 2023 is due to come into effect on 31st March 2025. This change will require drivers in Ireland to provide the driver numbers for each driver covered on a private car insurance policy.
Important Information
AIG are required to capture the driver number(s) to comply with this new legislation from 31st March 2025, for any new or existing car insurance policy when renewing. AIG will require driver numbers for all drivers (policyholder and any named driver(s)) covered on a private car insurance policy.
You can find your driver number under section 4(d) on your Driving licence. See image below (driver number highlighted in yellow) and you will need to supply this when renewing your car insurance or when buying a new car insurance policy.
Policy Renewal
When renewing your policy today, you can go ahead and purchase as usual without the need to provide your driver number. Once the legislation comes into effect on 31st March 2025, you will need to enter the driver number for all drivers you would like covered on your car insurance policy. We recommend you check your licence and locate where the driver number is located, so you can provide it in future.
Important Changes Impacting You:
Once this new legislation comes into effect AIG, under the new rules, can only transact car insurance cover where all drivers covered on a car insurance policy have provided a valid driver number. (These rules will apply to all new business and renewing policies with an effective date of 31st of March 2025 onwards).
Renewing or Replacing a Lost Driving Licence
It is really important for customers to check their licence is valid and up to date for both the policyholder, and any named driver, that require coverage on a car insurance policy.
