Travel Insurance is designed to protect your health, belongings and the cost of your trip.

AIG Travel Insurance is underwritten by AIG Europe S.A. and is designed to protect you while travelling abroad on holidays. There are a variety of options to chose from depending on the nature and duration of your trip.

This website is unable to provide quotes to persons aged 79 and over. However, we can provide quotations to persons aged 79 and over if they contact us directly. Special rates and conditions may apply. We can be contacted at travel.ie@aig.com or on 1800 344 455. Our lines are open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays).

You can insure your partner if they are aged over 18 and under 79 and you have been cohabiting as a couple in the same dwelling for 6 months. If your partner is aged 79 or over, special rates and conditions may apply and you are advised to contact us directly at travel.ie@aig.com or on 1800 344 455.

Under our Single Trip Insurance there is a special “Family Rate” which covers two parents and up to four of your dependant children up to 18 years at the time of purchase and named on the schedule. If you chose to purchase our Annual Multi Trip Insurance up to four dependant children up to 18 years are covered free of charge provided they are named. Any additional children are charged for. On all products children receive the same benefits as adults, apart from the Permanent Total Disablement benefit, which does not apply. The death benefit is €7,000 for children under 16 years.

No, but it is a requirement of this insurance that they meet up with parents, guardian or relatives on reaching their non stop destination.

Yes, you can but an initial “up-front” deposit payment by Credit Card or Debit Card is required.“Medicare Extra” Travel Insurance is only suitable if you have Private Health Insurance with Voluntary Health Insurance Board, Aviva, GloHealth or Laya Healthcare , and it provides an element of private medical insurance while you are abroad. All persons covered on our travel Insurance should also be covered under your Private Health Insurance, which must remain in force for the duration of the insured journey. Please read our “Medicare Extra” Policy Document for more detail.

Yes, provided you have selected the Business Insurance option.

Yes, our travel insurance covers you for trips within Ireland provided you book more than one night's accommodation away from your usual place of residence. There are restrictions to the cover provided for trips taken within the Republic of Ireland, please read your Policy Document for more information.

Yes, but cover will cease as soon as you arrive at your country of destination.

Yes. To protect your own interests you should purchase Travel Insurance cover at the same time you purchase your travel package. You can buy it at a later date but it will not cover events which have already occurred.

No, as long as each period of travel does not exceed the duration specified in the insurance you have purchased, you can travel as many times as you like. However, if you go on a trip that exceeds the specified trip duration, your cover ceases on the final day of the trip limit, and you should purchase Single Trip Insurance to cover this trip specifically. No single trip should last longer than 31 days under Budget Insurance, 45 days under Premier Insurance or 60 days under Premier Plus Insurance.

Yes, your Travel Insurance policies do not cover pre-existing medical conditions, or travel to or through Cuba, Iran, Syria, North Korea or the Crimea region, or countries where the Department of Foreign Affairs have allocated  a security status of 'avoid non-essential travel' or 'do not travel'.

The maximum duration of any one period of travel must not exceed 31 days for Budget Insurance, 45 days for Premier Insurance or 60 days for Premier Plus Insurance. If the insurance you have purchased exceeds these durations your cover ceases on the final day of the trip limit. The period of travel must start and finish in the Republic of Ireland.

The maximum length under Single Trip is 120 days.

Medical Coverage

You can still buy our travel insurance but it is important to note that you may not be covered for some existing illness or medical conditions. Please ensure you read the terms of our Pre-Existing Medical Condition Clause carefully to ensure that this insurance is suitable for your needs.

“Pre-existing condition” refers to injury, sickness, disease, illness or other medical condition that you knew about or should have known about before you bought this insurance. For a complete description of Pre-Existing Conditions, please refer to the general exclusions on page 6 of your Travel Insurance Policy Document.

In the event of a medical emergency, you must contact AIG Assistance Services within 48 hours. They must authorise payment of all in-patient hospital, clinic or nursing home expenses, emergency repatriation or curtailment expenses. Unauthorised claims may not be paid, so please contact them as soon as possible on 00 44 1243 621 508.

Yes, we're happy to offer you travel cover, some conditions and exclusions apply. please bear in mind the following with regard to pregnancy

 

Cancellation: If you are pregnant prior to the date of purchasing this policy then cancellation of your trip is not covered due to pregnancy. You can therefore make a claim if you become pregnant after the date you arranged this insurance cover and your doctor advises that you are not fit to travel due to complications in your pregnancy.

 

Medical Expenses: you are covered for medical expenses connect to pregnancy provided that you are not 26 weeks pregnant at the beginning of or during your trip.

Claims & Assistance

Please contact our Customer Service Helpline on 1800 344 455 and ask for our Travel Insurance Customer Service. Our lines are open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays). You can also email us with your query at travel.ie@aig.com.

Your Policy Document will be sent to you by email as soon as your payment details have been validated. A copy of the Travel Insurance policy wording is also available for you to view online by simply clicking on the appropriate Policy Document link on our Travel Insurance page.

Please email us on travel.ie@aig.com if you feel this Insurance is not suitable for your needs and you require a refund. This email should reach us no later than 14 days after you have purchased your insurance. We will only give you a refund if you have not travelled or there have been no incidents which may give rise to a claim under your travel insurance.

If you agreed to automatic renewal when purchasing your Travel cover, your card will be billed when your renewal is due. An email will be issued before your policy is due to renew. You can opt out anytime by contacting our customer services team at  travel.ie@aig.com or on 1800 344 455.

Any occurrence or loss which may give rise to a claim should be advised immediately to Segwicks Ireland Travel Claims, Merrion Hall, Strand Road, Dublin 4. Telephone 01 261 1540. Claim forms can be downloaded here.

Most sections of your insurance have an excess where you have to contribute a certain amount per claim. The excess is applied to each Insured Person and varies from section to section. Please read your Policy Document for the exact amount. If you have purchased Excess Waiver or Premier Plus cover this amount is reduced to nil.

The maximum amount we will pay for any one item, pair or set of items is €100 if you have purchased Budget or Extended Stay Insurance, €250 if you have purchased Premier Insurance or €300 if you have purchased Premier Plus Insurance. Please refer to the definition of ‘pair or set of items’ on page 5 of your Policy Document for more information.

AIG Assistance Services operate a 24 hour emergency service. They can liaise with doctors and hospitals, guarantee medical charges and who to contact in the event of a medical emergency?
